Sniper's Paradise!
Setting up a Server on a cable / DSL / T1 modem on a LAN using WINGATE.
WINGATE is a software program designed to let you connect all the computers on your LAN to the Internet thru a single IP address such as Cable, DSL, or even a T1 connection. You can run as many computers as your LAN hub setup will allow. But your ISP (Internet Service Provider) will only see the one Computer attached that you are using for your server. You can click on your browser from any computer and it will pass thru the server right to the internet as if you had a direct connection .
WINGATE has to be installed on all the computers you want to have access the internet. Only the one box connected to the internet will be setup as a server, the others will be setup as clients. Here is a typical LAN setup:
Follow the setup instructions on the WINGATE website. First, setup the server with WINGATE as a Server installation, then two clients using WINGATE as a Client installation, for a total of three computers with access to the internet. WINGATE has to be installed on all the boxes, but only one is setup as a WINGATE Server.
Try launching an internet multiplayer Unrealserver from one of the client machines using the following bat file. (MultiHome Parameter is not needed in this case.)
:top
c:
cd\Unreal\System
ucc server dmdeck16t?game=UnrealShare.TeamGame ini=server1.ini log=server1.log
copy server1.log server1crash.log
goto top
Start up GateKeeper (This is the control window for WINGATE) to edit your server:
Below is a screenshot of The GateKeeper window (showing "System" Tab)
Select the "DHCP Service" under the"Bindings" Tab set this up
If you see the IP addresses listed down in the lower window under "Available" and "Status" is "Stopped". You can double click on the IP address and it will move up to the Window under "Bound" and the "Status" will still say "Stopped", click on the save button on the "GateKeeper" window and the "Status" should change to "Started".
Next "DNS" Tab and then "Bindings"
And again the "Bindings" Tab under "Winsock Redirector"
Below is a screen shot of the "Services" Tab in GateKeeper
Double click on the "WWW Proxy Server" and you will see this screen showing the "General" settings.
Make sure the ListenPort in your "Unreal.ini" or "server.ini" is set to the same number as here (in this case 80)
From
my server1.ini...
[UWeb.WebServer]
Applications[0]=UTServerAdmin.UTServerAdmin
ApplicationPaths[0]=/ServerAdmin
Applications[1]=UTServerAdmin.UTImageServer
ApplicationPaths[1]=/images
DefaultApplication=0
bEnabled=True
ListenPort=80
MaxConnections=30
ServerName=24.161.30.39
Next click on the "Bindings" Tab
If you see the IP addresses listed down in the lower window under "Available" and "Status" is "Stopped". You can double click on the IP address and it will move up to the Window under "Bound" and the "Status" will still say "Stopped", click on the save button on the "GateKeeper" window and the "Status" should change to "Started".
Next is the "Interfaces" Tab, I originally had this set to Rotate Connections but it didn't work, this setting here did the trick :).
I skipped over the next two tabs...:Sessions" and "Policies" because I didn't need them for Testing. That gets us to the next tab "Non-Proxy Requests" I had to set this up for the Remote Admin WebSite to work.
Lastly we have the "Connections" Tab:
After all those windows and settings, the Remote Admin Website was up and running!!!
The server showed up on the UnrealBrowser under the TeamGames Tab with the proper IP address of 24.161.30.39 and if I clicked on the LAN tab from a Unreal game on another computer in my LAN it showed up as 192.168.0.2. After a few minutes other players from the internet joined in the game successfully.
OH, btw I am also able to surf the web and use my WS_FTP95 (ftp software) to update this website from a client box thru the server box and on to the internet, workin' good so far.
Next I tried to setup a LAN Game from one of the client boxes. The NIC settings were set just like WINGATE had specified: The Server IP set to 192.168.0.1 and the client boxes were set to obtain IP address, but I could not get the client box to launch the LAN server successfully while the WINGATE was running. Oh btw, I was trying to launch it from within the game not with a batfile or commandline. So I had to go into settings | control panel | network | and change the TCP settings to manually specify the IP address (see pics below). I had troubles connecting properly from the other machines on the LAN to the Unreal server, this way. I had to restart the server using a commandline with UCC.exe. Then I was able to connect perfectly from the other LAN machines (boxes).
