Decompressing UZ Files
To decompress .uz files you must use the UCC command in Unreal Tournament. To do this you will need to;
Go to the Windows Start button
then choose Run
and type in cmd
Once you have done this you will need to navigate to your Unreal Tournament System Directory, to do this you must first know where that directory is. If UT was installed to the to the default directory, it will be located in C:/UnrealTournament/System/ if not, then use the same commands, just type in the correct path to your Unreal directory.
In the cmd.exe window you should be seeing a blinking cursor, you need to get it to the root c: drive.
To do this type "cd .." without the quotes. You may need to keep typing cd .. until you see C:\> with a blinking cursor.
Now once you are at the base directory, you need to get to the UT system directory. To do so type cd unrealtournament then type cd system
If done correctly, you should be in your UnrealTournament/System directory and you should see C:/UnrealTournament/System/> with a blinking cursor
Now that you are in the correct location, you will need to use the ucc utility in Unreal to decompress the file. You will need to know two things, 1st the location of the file you want decompressed, and 2nd the name of that file.
To decompress the . uz file, type
" ucc decompress C:/UnrealTournament/pathtofile/filename.fileextention.uz" less the quotes.
I.E. ucc decompress C:/UnrealTournament/System/DM-Moonbase.unr.uz
The above example assumes the file you want to decompress (DM-Moonbase.unr.uz) is in your UnrealTournamnet/System folder and the name of the file you want to convert is named DM-Moonbase.unr
Once UCC has finished running and you did not get any errors, you will find the decompressed file in the folder where you decompressed it. In this example we decompressed it in the UnrealTournament/System folder so the file will be found in that folder. You will need to move it to the correct folder in order to use it.
Compressing UZ Files
To Compress files you can use the UCC command in Unreal Tournament or use a program called UTComprez.
NOTE: The UCC feature in Unreal does not work.
If you perfer to use UCC, then follow the decompress directions above replacing the decompress syntax with the following syntax in order to compress the file.
ucc compress C:/UnrealTournament/Pathtofile/filename.fileextention.uz
Redirection
Redirection sends players who connect to your server to a website to download files which the player does not have. Once they are down downloading the files the player is sent back to your server to enter the game.
Redirection should be set up if your server runs custom files i.e. maps, mods or mutators to speed up the downloads especially with large files and to avoid additional CPU and Bandwidth, redirection solves this problem.
Setting Up To Use Redirection
First, you will need to search for the [IpDrv.HTTPDownload] section in your Unreal.ini file and edit the RedirectToUrl= to reflex the website your files are stored at.
Refer to the example below.
(Note: If you do not have these sections then you can copy and paste them to the end of your unreal.ini file)
Unreal:
Add compressed files
Upload your compressed .uz files to your website.
Need a ftp client to upload your files: http://filezilla.sourceforge.net
Restart your server and check the files to make sure they are downloading and you should be done.
