UNREAL TO SUPPORT AUREAL 3D
The Most Anticipated PC Game of All Time, 'Unreal,' To Support Aureal's A3D Positional Audio Technology.
A3D Supported in GT Interactive's 'Unreal,' Which Will
Also Support A3D 2.0 In the Future. FREMONT, Calif., April 28 -- Aureal Semiconductor Inc.
(OTC Bulletin Board: AURL - news) today announced that GT Interactive Software, Corp.
(Nasdaq: GTIS - news), a leading global publisher of interactive entertainment software,
with its release of Unreal, will be the first company to ship a PC game that will support
A3D 2.0, Aureal's next-generation 3D audio technology. One of this year's most eagerly
anticipated games, Unreal will integrate Aureal's A3D positional 3D audio technology into
the game, with future support of A3D 2.0 expected to be available.
A3D creates a totally immersive, realistic audio experience
in which sounds emanate from all directions in an x, y, and z plane. Already a must-have
feature for hard core gamers, support for A3D in Unreal will enhance player's audio/visual
game play experience.
A3D 2.0 provides additional audio sources and includes
Aureal Wavetracing technology, the ability to mimic real-world environments with
reflections and occlusions, as well as the audio rendering of surface materials and
textures. Many reviewers and analysts have referred to A3D as the ``3Dfx of the audio
world,'' and now the new version of A3D will take the immersive audio experience to new
heights.
``Unreal stretches the boundaries of 3D action games in
both graphics and sound, so it's only natural that we support cutting edge developments
like Aureal's A3D,'' said Mark Rein, vice president of Epic MegaGames. ``Once you've heard
how fantastic Unreal sounds with A3D positional audio, you'll wonder how you ever listened
to games with only stereo sound.''
``We are very excited to be included in a title which is
likely to be the hottest game of the year,'' said Skip McIlvaine, Aureal's A3D Technical
Evangelist. ``The only thing better than A3D in this title is the coming support for A3D
2.0''
Unreal transports one or more players to a beautiful planet
filled with deadly, cunning enemies that attack players from the land, air and water.
Armed with an array of powerful weapons, ranging from assault rifles to flak cannons,
players must rely on their wits and will to survive. Unreal's visuals set a new standard
for realism -- water is transparent, flames randomly flicker, moving clouds cast shadow,
while dynamic lighting and music changes compliment the on-screen action.
Anyone can host their own Unreal multi-player game on the
Internet and jump to another's game anywhere in the world as swiftly as they would go from
web site to web site. In addition, Unreal will provide players with the most advanced, yet
simple-to-use and quick design tool for creating their own 3D environments to play in.
