227 Customization

For those of you who do not like to use 227 sound or menu you can customize your game to sound and act like Unreal. Just follow the simple steps below.

Menu
To use the Unreal Gold menu instead of the Unreal classic menu.

1. Enter Advanced Options by going to the main menu and chossing Advanced Options.
2. In advanced options, expand Drivers and change Console to UMenu Browser Console.
3. Restart the game so changes will take effect.

Sound
For those of you who do not like the new sounds in 227 i.e. footsteps you can change your audio device so that 227 sound more like original Unreal by following the steps below.

1. Enter Advanced Options by going to the main menu and chossing Advanced Options.
2. In advanced options, expand Drivers and change Audio Device to Galaxy 3D Audio for Windows or FMODAudioDevice
3. Restart the game so changes will take effect.

You may need to tweak a few settings. Below are the settings I use in my Unreal.ini for Galaxy 3D and FMOD.

Themes
You can change the theme in 227 to give Unreal a new look by following the steps below.
1. Open Unreal, hit Escape and click on the option then preferences tab
2. Once in preferences, click the video tab and look for the GUI Skin drop down box. From here you will be able to change your theme to one that fits your taste.
3. Choose one of the following themes.
Gold
Ice
Metal
Win95

Unreal .ini
For advanced users you can edit your Unreal.ini file, be sure you back up your .ini just in case you make a mistake.

First search your .ini for [Engine.Engine] from here you can change your sound back to Unreal by changing your AudioDevice. You can also change your Unreal menu from the 227 default menu to the Unreal Gold menu.
